The 2010 Greenmount Travel Study Tour to the US will cover Texas, plus the south and east of the country.

It will take in some of the major areas for cropping and livestock production in the States, including the Texas Panhandle, Tennessee and Mississippi. We will meet with researchers and farm organisations in Dallas, Memphis, Washington and New York.

For those who thought Texas was just a dusty cowboy state, think again. With a huge land area, it is the major US state for a variety of grains and other crops and leads the country in agricultural technology in many areas. And Texans and Australians are so much alike, they always hit it off.

As usual, there will be time for some rest and relaxation to take in some iconic US destinations such as:
• Las Vegas;
• The Grand Canyon;
• Memphis (Beale Street and Graceland);
• Nashville (think Grand ‘Ole Opry);
• Washington;
• New York;
• Yellowstone National Park;
• Add-on options such as Rocky Mountaineer trains, Inside Passage
cruises and stopovers in California.

We can help you arrange any intended ‘add-ons’ to ensure they not only mesh nicely with the main tour – they are offered at very competitive prices.

We will meet some of the best farmers and researchers in the US and get a good handle on the biofuels situation which has become a major part of the agricultural scene, especially in west Texas.

Some of the areas of particular interest for us include production and marketing trends, farm support programs, changing farm and cropping systems, biofuels production and grain usage, GM and ag biotech trends, new commercial crop varieties and species, precision agriculture and new machinery technology. We will also be visiting organic farms, beef cattle operations and feed lots. Plus some innovative uses for coal seam gas water in Wyoming. The list goes on – and we intend to tick the box on all of these items throughout the tour.

As with all of the farm study tours we offer, flexibility is the key.
It’s your opportunity to make the best of your time away, so if you would like to head to the US or Canada before the main group arrives, or stay on to do your own thing – or even duck off midtour for a few days – we will do our best to accommodate you. And if you have the chance to book a flight with frequent flyer points, go for your life, we will deduct the flight cost from your tour price.

Over the past 16 years, Greenmount Travel has established excellent farming and agribusiness contacts in the US and Canada. We also have valuable experience in dealing with the unique travel challenges posed by off-the-beaten track destinations. This ensures our tours are well organised and are expertly guided by local trusted operators and our own experienced Greenmount Travel personnel. Passenger numbers are limited to a comfortable busful.
